I like the chunky weight of concrete and enjoy incorporating texture and unique patterns into the vessels. I use a special masonry stain that seeps into the concrete staining it rather than a surface level paint. Concrete can be unwieldy and stubborn, seeping through any opening, pushing, and fighting back, but there is a certain beauty and permanence that comes with that. My forms are rustic and not like a clay vessel, and that's what I like about them. They are raw and have broken edges, deep set designs, and are solid like a stone. All of my concrete art is handmade in Denver, CO.
Yes, it can. Normally, you might not think of concrete as art for your wall, but each piece has an embedded wire loop in it, so all you need is a nail and it's ready to hang. Some of the pieces incorporate century old hand carved designs in them, and others are a unique blend of texture and form. Each piece is hand colored and handmade.
My magnets take many forms and each one has one or more magnets strong enough to carry it adhered to the back. The beautiful thing about concrete is that can take any form you tell it to. That creates a unique opportunity to create endless shapes and designs.
In my search for a way to display my concrete art, I began to incorporate other materials into my work and an assemblage series began to take shape. I have incorporated old wood, glass, concrete and barbed wire, nails and screws, different paint, and found and purchased objects, into my newest body of work.
I love when an object looks rustic, like it's had a life and been used for years. The beauty of this type of work is that I can take those worn, and even forgotten items, and give them a new life turning them into a new work of art for all to enjoy.
I hope you've enjoyed taking a look at my work. Please let me know if you have questions, thoughts, or feedback!
